Report text merupakan salah satu jenis text bahasa Inggris yang mengandung informasi sesuai dengan fakta ilmiah berdasarkan penelitian dan pengamatan. Text ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi yang detail dan ringkas tentang suatu objek, contohnya seperti hewan, tumbuhan, fenomena alam, peristiwa sejarah ataupun benda-benda di sekitar.

Dikutip dari buku Jenis-Jenis Teks dalam Bahasa Inggris oleh Joko Prayudha, penulisan report text bertujuan untuk meyampaikan informasi atau peristiwa secara apa adanya sesuai dengan hasil pengamatan atau penelitian baik secara sistematis maupun analisis. Sehingga, dalam hal ini report text sering kali digunakan untuk penyusunan proposal ataupun laporan observasi.

Secara definisi report text memiliki kemiripan dengan descriptive Text. Perbedaan antara keduanya adalah report text memberikan informasi tentang suatu objek secara umum. Sedangkan, descriptive text mendeskripsikan objek yang khusus dan spesifik. Namun, keduanya memiliki struktur yang mirip.

Struktur Report Text

Dalam menulis report text, ada struktur text yang dapat menjadi pedoman, yaitu:

1. General classification

General classification terdapat pada paragraf pertama pada text. General classification merupakan pernyataan umum yang menjelaskan tentang subjek, laporan, keterangan dan klasifikasinya.

2. Descriptions

Descriptions terletak pada paragraf kedua dan seterusnya. Pada bagian ini biasanya memberikan informasi yang lebih spesifik terkait fakta-fakta ilmiah, dan informasi terperinci tentang objek atau fenomena yang terjadi.

Berikut adalah beberapa contoh report text yang dikutip dari modul ajar Bahasa Inggris dan buku Super Complete SMP/MTs 7,8,9 oleh Elis Khoerunnisa dkk:

1. Komodo Dragon

Komodo dragon is the largest lizard on Earth. It lives within the scrub and land of some Indonesian islands. Komodo dragon is the world's heaviest lizard advising one hundred fifty pounds or a lot. The most important Komodo ever measured was quite ten feet (3 meters) long and weighed 366 pounds (166 kg) however, the common size of Komodo within the wild is about eight feet (2.5 meters) long and two hundred pounds or 91 kg.

Komodo has grayscale skin, a pointed snout, powerful limbs, and a muscular tail. They use their keen sense of smell to find decaying animal remains from many miles away. They additionally hunt different lizards yet as massive mammals and generally barbarian.

2. The Blue Whales

The blue whale is not only the biggest whale living today; the blue whale is the biggest creature ever to have lived on Earth. They are mind-bogglingly gigantic; much larger than any of the dinosaurs.

Blue whales and the other ocean giants live their whole lives in seawater. Blue whales commonly reach the colossal length of 29m, that's roughly as long as three London red double-decker buses parked end to end. Blue whales in the Southern Hemisphere are generally larger than those in the Northern HemisphΓ©re and female blues are larger than males.

3. Elephants

Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth, and they're one of the most unique-looking animals, too. With their characteristic long noses, or trunks; large, floppy ears; and wide, thick legs, there is no other animal with a similar physique.

Most experts recognize two species of elephant: the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) and the African elephant (Loxodonta africana), who live on separate continents and have many unique features. There are several subspecies that belong to one or the other of these two main species, though experts argue over how many subspecies there are and whether or not they constitute separate species.

4. Polar Bear

Polar bears are large carnivorous mammals inhabiting the Arctic region. These fascinating creatures are uniquely adapted to survive in the harsh conditions of their icy environment and are essential components of the Arctic ecosystem.

Polar bears are primarily found in areas surrounding the Arctic Ocean, including countries such as Canada, Russia, Greenland, Norway, and the United States (Alaska). They are the largest land carnivores and are known for their distinct white fur, which serves as excellent camouflage in their snowy surroundings.

5. Rainforest

Rainforests are extensive forests located in tropical areas with high levels of rainfall throughout the year. Characterized by their rich biodiversity, rainforests play a crucial role in maintaining Earth's ecological balance.

Rainforests can be found in various parts of the world, including South America, Africa, and Asia. The most extensive rainforest is the Amazon rainforest, located in South America. These ecosystems are vital due to their ability to support a diverse range of plant and animal species. It is estimated that more than half of Earth's species reside within rainforest habitats.

6. Online Games

Online games are a type of computer game that utilizes the internet network. This type of game can be accessed by game lovers directly from the company's system via the internet network on computers, laptops, tablets, or cell phones. In addition, online games can be played together with other game players (players/gamers) and communicate directly between fellow players in the same game.

The emergence of online games as technological development in this modern era certainly needs to be addressed with various positive and negative points of view according to its users. As a human being who accepts change, there need to be limitations on the extent of the negative impact it causes.

7. House

A house is a type of building that has functions as a place to live. Usually and typically, a house is made for one family, but this does not rule out the possibility that sometimes more than one family are living inside the same roof. A house consists of many rooms with walls, roof, floor, ventilation, pipes, and so many more.

Typically, the living room and the family room of a house is separated but sometimes people decide that they want these two rooms combined, so that the layout of the house can be more efficient. A bedroom, bathroom, and a kitchen are the three rooms that a house should have, because these three rooms are very important.

8. Venice

Venice is a city in northern Italy. It is the capital of region Veneto. Together with Padua, the city is included in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area. Venice has been known asthe "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water" "City of Bridges", and "The City of Light". Thecity stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy.

Venice is world-famous for its canals, It is built on an archipelago of 117 islands formed by about 150 canals in a shallow lagoon. The islands on which the city is built are connected by about 400 bridges. In the old center the canals serve the function of roads, and every form of transport is on water or on foot.

9. Chicken

Chicken is a domesticated fowl, a subspecies of the red jungle fowl. As one of the most common and widespread domestic animals, with a population of more than 24 billion in 2003, there are more chickens in the world than any other species of bird. Humans keep chickens primarily as a source of food, consuming both their meat and their eggs.

The earliest known domestication occurred in Northern China 8,000 BC. determined from archaeological chicken bones. Previously genetic studies have pointed to multiple maternal origins in Southeast, East, and South Asia, but with the clade found in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa originating in the Indian subcontinent. From India, the domesticated chicken was imported to Lydia in western Asia Minor, and to Greece by the fifth century BC.

10. Mobile Phone

Mobile phones or what we called as a smartphone today is a wireless telecommunication system. It can be connected to every communication platform and internet system.

The small size and handy shape from the phone allow people to communicate in a long distance. People can take this smartphone everywhere for many uses. Technological innovation in Mobile phone let everyone taste the advancement of telecommunication system with an internet based. Today, the smartphone can be able to be used for entertainment, working, and payment systems with all of the internet-based systems.
