Vatikan - Patung Hercules raksasa bersepuh emas ditemukan di Museum Vatikan. Patung setinggi empat meter itu kini tengah direstorasi.

Pemulih Museum Vatikan Alice Baltera mengerjakan restorasi patung Hercules bersepuh emas di Aula Bundar Museum Vatikan, Kamis (11/5/2023).

Para ahli restorasi bekerja untuk menghilangkan kotoran yang telah berabad-abad menempel pada patung perunggu terbesar di dunia kuno, patung Hercules Mastai Righetti yang disepuh emas.

Restorasi akan berlanjut hingga Desember untuk mengungkap patung yang diyakini telah berdiri di Teater Pompey Roma kuno, hingga ke kilau aslinya.

Patung ini nyaris tidak menarik perhatian di antara benda-benda purbakala lainnya karena tertutup kotoran.

Penemuannya pada tahun 1864 saat pengerjaan sebuah vila milik seorang bankir di dekat Piazza dei Fiori menjadi berita utama di seluruh dunia.

Pengunjung museum akan dapat melihat patung yang berasal dawi awal abad ketiga itu pada bulan Desember mendatang.
