Ahli geologi planet, Alfred McEwen, mengatakan bentuk dan ukuran bukit pasir di Mars memang bervariasi.Β

McEwen mengatakan bukit pasir dengan bentuk polkadot tersebut jika dilihat dari dekat tidak memiliki lingkaran yang sempurna. Hal tersebut bisa dipengaruhi oleh kecepatan angin.
